Bet365 Sub On Play On: how substitute protection works

Learn how bet365 Sub On Play On carries eligible player bets to a replacement, with UK and US differences and key exclusions.

Offers depend on your location and account eligibility. Check the current operator terms before betting. Koddslab may earn commission from qualifying registrations through its links.

What is Sub On Play On?

Sub On Play On is bet365’s English name for the substitute feature often described as Sustituto+ in Spanish. On qualifying player markets, an unresolved selection can continue with the direct replacement when your original player leaves the pitch. It is not a general refund for every player substitution.

Follow the named replacement on the bet slip

The UK help centre describes selected pre-match player bets carrying over without changing the odds, including qualifying Bet Builders. The feature’s icon must be shown. If the substitute is later replaced, the selection can continue with the next replacement. Simultaneous substitutions are assigned using bet365’s stated data provider, Podium; the replacement shown on the slip matters.

For illustration, an eligible two-or-more-goals selection may combine one goal from the original player with another from their replacement. That does not mean you can choose any substitute or add every goal scored by the team.

Extra time is a labelled exception

UK guidance includes extra time for qualifying matches and labelled player markets, with penalty shootouts excluded. Check the label rather than assuming all knockout matches have identical coverage. An outcome already decided before the substitution is not reopened, and a previously Cashed Out bet does not qualify.

How to make the most of Sub On Play On

First decide what the player market actually measures: goals, shots or another listed statistic. Next look for the feature icon on that exact market. A match offering one protected selection does not establish that every other player market in the match has the same treatment.

When a substitution occurs, read the replacement recorded on your ticket. Your own interpretation of a tactical reshuffle is not a reliable substitute for the operator’s identified replacement. Keep the original market and required total in view; the feature does not let you rewrite the selection after kickoff.

Pros of Sub On Play On

  • The selection can continue. A qualifying substitution need not end the opportunity attached to an unresolved player selection.
  • No replacement wager is needed. You can follow the existing ticket rather than place a second bet simply because a player has left.
  • The accepted price stays visible. The original ticket provides the reference for evaluating the return and asking settlement questions.

Cons and limitations of Sub On Play On

  • The substitute is not your choice. A preferred player on the bench is not necessarily the direct replacement assigned to your selection.
  • The remaining playing time can be short. Continuing a ticket does not guarantee the required statistic will occur.
  • Not every market is covered. The same player can appear in selections with different conditions.
  • It is not a retrospective reset. A decided outcome or a closed ticket cannot simply be treated as a new unresolved bet.

Three situations to distinguish

Still unresolved: your ticket needs a further qualifying event and the original player leaves. Check the recorded replacement and the unchanged target on the ticket.

Already successful: the required event has already occurred. A later substitution is not a reason to expect an additional payment.

Not a substitution: do not assume an injury stoppage, a sending-off or a player remaining on the pitch invokes a rule about replacements. Read the relevant market conditions.

Compare protection and price separately

Illustration only: a 10-unit cash stake at 2.40 has a 24-unit total return if successful; at 2.20 it has a 22-unit return. A feature name alone does not tell you how those two offers compare. The market definition, settlement conditions and probability of the required event also matter.

Do not add more legs to a Bet Builder just because one carries the icon. Each additional condition changes what must happen for the complete ticket to succeed. A player substitution feature is not protection against an unrelated leg losing.

Sub On Play On questions

Can I choose a different substitute?

No manual choice is described by the feature. Follow the replacement shown under the applicable operator rules.

Should I place a second bet on the replacement?

A second wager is a separate exposure, not a required step to make the original ticket work. Check the existing ticket first.

How should I query a settlement?

Keep the bet reference, original player, market, substitution time and replacement displayed. Ask the operator about the specific recorded selection rather than sending only a final match score.

Is it available in the USA?

Yes: a dedicated US offer page documents selected player markets carrying the Sub On Play On icon. Its terms describe straight and parlay bets carrying over to the direct replacement while the outcome remains unresolved. Friendly and exhibition matches are excluded. Qualifying extra-time settlement is covered by the current campaign through 31 December 2026 where available.

US eligibility depends on an eligible account and physical location in a supported jurisdiction. The operator identifies eligible offers in the account’s Rewards section. Do not transfer UK Bet Builder rules or terminology to a US bet slip without checking the local terms.

What should Irish customers check?

We found the UK help guidance and an explicit US campaign, but have not independently verified current Irish eligibility. Look for the feature icon in your own account and read the local market rules. The existence of an English-language explanation alone does not confirm participation.
